What is a Cape Sleeve?
A cape sleeve is similar to a jacket but much shorter in length. It can be used by itself or paired with a snap-on bib to create a “system”. Just like a jacket, the cape sleeve and bib are designed to provide protection from a variety of threats, including weld splatter, grinding sparks, thermal transfer, and cuts and punctures to name a few. When deciding which option will work best for you, the advantage of the “system” is that it offers the flexibility to:
- Replace the less expensive snap-on bib when it wears out faster than the cape sleeve
- Have the snap-on bib made using different fabric to provide extra or different protection
- Snap-on different length bibs depending on the task
- Keep the team members cooler and more comfortable
- Incorporate a high arch in the back of the cape to keep team members cooler and more comfortable when the weather gets hot

Cape Sleeves & Snap-On Bibs for Cut & Puncture Protection
Tri-Star Glove manufactures cape sleeves and bibs that provide both cut and puncture protection.
We design and manufacture cape sleeves and bibs for those who need protection when working with sharp objects, shards and burrs, such as glass, plastics, and metals.
All of the high performance, inherent flame resistant (IFR) fabrics we use to provide cut & puncture protection are woven. These tightly woven fabrics are designed and engineered specifically to shed glass and provide puncture protection should shards or burrs occur and embed themselves in the fabric. They range in cut level A2 to A6, and puncture level 2 to 4.
Cape Sleeves & Snap-On Bibs for Welding
As problem solvers, we believe in analyzing threats and coming up with countermeasures for optimal protection and comfort. This is the principle we use when creating high-performance safety apparel to protect from the threats involved with welding and grinding. Our protective capes and snap-on bibs are manufactured using our high-performance fabrics, such as IFR Barrweld®. These fabrics are inherent flame-resistant (IFR), which means the protective properties are inherent to the fiber, won’t launder out over the life of the garment, and won’t burn, melt, or drip. These fabrics are designed and engineered to shed weld splatter and resist pin holes and are available in different weights, from 7 oz Barrweld Lite to 10 oz Barrweld Extreme. In the daily quest for cost-saving opportunities, cape sleeves and snap-on bibs made using inherent flame-resistant fabrics last longer and are much more protective when compared to garments made using FR-treated cotton.
